Upon reaching Thimphu, the capital city, we will check into our hotel and spend the evening exploring the city on foot. In the morning, we will visit the Handmade Paper Mill, where traditional Bhutanese paper is crafted using ancient techniques. Next, we’ll explore the School of Arts and Crafts (closed on Sundays and government holidays), where students master 13 distinct arts integral to Bhutanese culture. Afterward, we will visit the nearby Folk Heritage Museum and National Library, offering insights into Bhutan’s rich heritage and history.

In the afternoon, we’ll drive past the Memorial Chorten, a revered structure built in memory of the 3rd King. We’ll visit the Buddha viewpoint for panoramic views of Thimphu, followed by a visit to Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the valley. Additionally, we’ll explore the Takin Enclosure, home to Bhutan’s unique national animal, and conclude with a visit to the serene Zilukha Nunnery. Return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Thimphu.

After breakfast, proceed towards Punakha, with a total driving time of approximately 3 hours. En route, make a halt at Dochula Pass, a picturesque mountain pass offering a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Eastern Himalayan mountain ranges. The view is especially captivating on clear, winter days when snow-capped peaks create a stunning backdrop to the 108 chortens adorning the mountain pass. Enjoy lunch at the newly opened Druk Wangyel Cafe, known for its serene atmosphere and delicious local cuisine.

Continue your journey to Punakha, where you’ll visit the historic Punakha Dzong, a stunning fortress located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo Chhu rivers. After breakfast, depart the hotel and go to find Paro. It extends from the point where the Paro Chhu and Wang Chhu rivers meet at Chuzom to the stunning Mt. Jomolhari, located toward the Tibetan border. Known for its beautiful terrains, this valley is among the widest in Bhutan: with fertile rice paddy and crystal river winding through it.

Once in Paro, you will enter the hotel and start out on sightseeing. Begin at Drukgyel Dzong, historic ruins of an ancient fortress, then drive onwards to Kyichu Lhakhang, another of Bhutan's oldest and most revered monasteries. Do not forget to visit Ta-Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan, which showcases a vast range of artistic works, historical documents, and other artifacts. Then, spend the night in Paro, where all this beauty is added to significance with culture and tradition.

Wake up early in the morning to hike up to the Tiger's Nest Temple, the most sacred monastery in Bhutan, which dramatically crowns a granite rock with an overwhelming drop overlooking the Paro Valley at 900 meters above the valley floor. The whole sacred site is closely related to Guru Rinpoche, who is believed to have meditated here in the eighth century and converted the entire valley to Buddhism. It typically takes an average hiker to do a 2-stage climb before reaching the site, but you may stretch it out for a day if you seek to explore the area thoroughly.

In the evening, go back to your hotel to relax and ponder over the trip. Spend a restful night in Paro with the soothing ambiance closing off a day full of cultural and natural marvels.
